CNA Courses Texas

CNA Courses Texas are overseen by the TX Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS), who bears the responsibility to review, prepare, approve, disapprove, manage and regulate various competency evaluation programs (NATCEPs) and nurse aide competency evaluation programs (CEPs) that are offered by different schools community and vocational colleges, technical institutes and trade schools all over the state of Texas. Any individual or program provider institute that aims to provide CNA Courses are required to get approval from DADs for the programs.

DADs approved CNA programs have following features:

A minimum total 75 hours training duration of NATCEP program.

Program Consist of classroom course instruction component and Clinical hands-on experience.

51 hours of classroom course learning.

24 hours of clinical hands-on experience in a long term care facility.

Students are prohibited to work with the residents during classroom instructions.

Can gain practical nursing experience with actual patients during clinical training.

The clinical portion of training can be completed under the supervision of RN.

The classroom course and training curriculum consist of below given skills learning:

Role of the Nurse Aide course instructs you on effective ways of Communication and interpersonal skills, to respect residents’ rights and independence, Legal and Ethical Behavior and your responsibilities as a important member of the facility Health Care Team.

Similarly, Mental Health care skills instructs you on caring of patients having mental health problems or mental disorders, such as Anxiety Disorders, Depression, ADHD, ADD patients, Manic-Depressive Illness, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), patients with suicidal tendencies and other mental problems.

You are also required to attend classes for learning Personal care skills, Basic nursing skills, Care of cognitively impaired residents, Knowledge on Human Anatomy basics, Emergency/Safety cares procedures, Basic restorative care services and additional care skills.

The students are offered options for attending full-time or part-time classes as per their convenience. The qualified and deserving students can also attend Free classes by applying for grants, loans and scholarships provided by private, state and federal agencies.
