The state of Oklahoma also follows and crosses the mandates of federal OBRA-87 that requires offering of minimum 75 hours of training, divided into classroom course instruction and clinical hands-on training.

The state of Oklahoma offers 75 to120 hours of total training, where clinical training continues for minimum 16 hours and rest of the training is distributed between classroom course instruction and lab training. It is the responsibility of Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) to approve, manage and regulate competency evaluation program of OK State. The programs can be attended from community colleges, high schools, trade schools and long term care facilities that offer state and federal approved training programs.

The schools offering daytime courses requires minimum 4 weeks of daytime attendance to complete the training and for students attending even programs needs to attend classes for 10 weeks. 10 hours of training is devoted exclusively for Alzheimer’s education.

The prerequisites for enrolling in the program include Criminal background check report, Tuberculosis (TB) skin test, Basic life support certification, CPR, a reading assessment with a satisfactory minimum score of 70.

Mental and Adult Health care skills makes CNA competent on caring  Anxiety Disorders, Depression, ADHD, ADD patients, Manic-Depressive Illness, Depression, Social Phobia (Social Anxiety Disorder), , Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Panic Disorder Schizophrenia or patients with suicide tendencies.

Human anatomy course instructs students on human anatomy or body systems, such as Skeletal system, Digestive systems,, Muscular system, Lymphatic system, Endocrine system,  Nervous system,  Cardiovascular system and  Urinary system. Such knowledge is essential while caring patients.

The further courses and skills that are instructed to students consists of Restorative Cares, Safety Techniques, Infection control, Emergency Care procedures, Basic Nursing Skills, Personal Care Skills, Basic Nursing Skills, Respecting patient’s Rights, Use of Medical Terminology and other skills.
