CNA Courses Hawaii
The Medicaid Agency has the responsibility to prepare the curriculums for HI Nurse Aide Training Programs (NATPs) or CNA Courses Hawaii. The program must meet the stipulations as required by the federal OBRA-87 and
Office of Heath Care Assurance, a State survey agency oversees the implementation of OBRA-87 requirements in the Medicaid Agency offered NATPs.
CNA Courses Hawaii comprises of 100 hours total training program, consisting of 30 hours classroom course works and 70 hours clinical hands-on training. The clinical training consists of 30 hours basic nursing care skills, 30 hours personal care skills and 10 hours basic restorative services.
The clinical portion of the training is completed under the direct supervision of a RN or LPN. The NATP program coordinator could be a Registered Nurse.
The students are also not allowed to practice with patients during classroom course instruction but they can experience with actual patients in long term care facilities during Clinical hands-on training.
CNA Courses Hawaii curriculum consists of following courses and skills along with numerous other skills:
Restorative Care Skills- instructions tries to make students proficient in caring of patients, who remain aloof and sit whole day idly, that may result in various types of ailments, such as weight gain, depression, aloofness and others. The knowledge gained by the students helps caring such patients by making them walk and join in other physical activities, which can keep patients active and alert.
Personal Care Skills instructs on patient’s washing, bathing, grooming, assist for walking and exercises and others.
Basic Nursing Care Skill teaches about measuring, counting and recording of vital signs, heights, intakes and outputs.
In addition, students are also instructed on Safety and Infection Control, CPR, Mental health care, Communication and interpersonal skills, Respect and Promotion of Residents’ Rights and Independence, knowledge on Human Body Anatomy and, Adult cares, Assist ing of dying patients and other various skills.
